ASUS Revises Downward Smartphone Shipment Forecast while Maintaining Annual Goal for Notebook PCs
February 19, 2016

ASUS has cut back its projection of 2016 smartphone shipments to 25 million units, down 16.7% from its previous goal, due to the delay of new Zenfone products and the fluctuation of exchange rates, reported the Economic Daily News on February 18. However, the company is optimistic about its notebook PC business as the first-quarter shipments reached 4.8 million units, which was better than expected. Overall, ASUS aims to ship around 22 million to 24 million units of notebook PCs this year, seeing a 5% to 10% year-on-year growth. For the first quarter of 2016, the company projects to ship 4.0 million units of smartphones, 5.3 million units of PCs, and 4.8 million units of notebook PCs. Meanwhile, Asus has expanded into new fields, including robots, IoT (Internet of Things) devices, AR (Augmented Reality), and VR (Virtual Reality). The company has cooperated with Oculus to launch pre-orders of VR-ready PCs in the United States this month.
